The historic village of Montmartre and the ebullient Palace of Versailles are two of Paris’ most visited destinations. If you’re staying in Montmartre, getting between the two can seem daunting. Montmartre is situated at the north of Paris, while Versailles is 20km east of the city.

However, a number of seamless transport methods link the two hotspots together:

From Abbesses, Jules Joffrin, Lamarck – Caulaincourt or Pigalle.

The above stations are all served by Metro Line 12.

Metro Line 12 (direction Mairie d’Issy)

To get to Versailles from any of the above stations take, the line 12 in the southern direction of Mairie d’Issy.

Alight the Line 12 at Gare Montparnasse, a 20 minute journey from Montmartre. From here you continue your journey to Versailles with an overground train.

The cost of the metro is 1.90€.

N Train (Direction Gare de Dreux)

The N train is a mainline train service which runs directly to Versailles with no stops from platforms 10-17. The journey takes around 12 minutes to arrive at the main station, Gare de Versailles Chantiers.

The cost of the N train is 3€ in each direction.

From Place de Clichy, La Fourche or Guy Môquet.

The above stations are served by the Metro Line 13.

Metro Line 13 (Direction Châtillon Montrouge)

To get to Versailles from any of the above stations take, the line 13 in the southern direction of Châtillon Montrouge.

From the Line 13 you have two options of trains to change too. The first being Saint-Lazare.

L Train (Direction Gare de Versailles Rive Droite) from Saint Lazare.

A few minutes from Montmartre, Saint-Lazare is a major train station with connections to all of Greater Paris. From here you can take the L train 11 stops to Versailles. The journey takes around 35 minutes, but saves you an extended period on the metro.

If you prefer to stay on the metro, the line 13 also continues to Gare Montparnasse, where you can take the N train.

Either walk or take the metro one stop either to Place de Clichy and take the Line 13.

All Journeys Take Between 1hr 5mins- 1hr 20mins.

We recommend taking the N train, which will take you directly to Versailles-Chantiers station

From Versailles-Chantiers station the Palace of Versailles is a 15 to 20 minute walk. Alternatively there is a bus line B that will take you 200 metres from the Palace in 2 stops. The fare is 2€.
