Perched on the highest point of Paris, the hill of Montmartre is one of the most visited destinations in Paris. With its winding cobbled streets, filled with niche boutiques and restaurants, it’s also a walkers paradise. However, its many staircases can be tiring for older tourists and children. Enter the little trains of Montmartre.
Operated by the Promotrain group, who also run a little train tour of Deauville, Le Petit Train de Montmartre is the most popular little train service in the area. The service operates year round and has a guided commentary, either in English or French.
The 35-minute circuit of the historic village departs from either Place Blanche, in front of the Moulin Rouge or from the Place du Tertre. Depending on if you’re entering Montmartre or descending from the peak, the train does a complete tour of the hill. Passing through the scenic Place Des Abbesses and up through the charming rue Caulaincourt; the highlight of the ride is when it passes right in front of the grandiose Sacré-Coeur basilica.
The price for the journey is 6.50€ for adults and 4.50€ for children under the age of 12. For families of groups, there is the possibility to reserve the train for yourselves and personalise your own circuit and commentary.
A second service, the Montmartrain runs a similar route in the area. Departing from the famous Place Pigalle, the white and red train hits all the same spots as le Petit Train de Montmartre. The 40-minute is also narrated with multilingual commentary and slightly cheaper than its competition. The price for an adult ticket is 5€, while children ride for 3.50€.
Our guests can easily embark on little train of Montmartre from either Blanche (350m away) or Pigalle (550m).
